| About Jersey Shore Pop Warner - Our records indicate that youth tackle teams were formed, and playing among themselves in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties, as far back as 1939. In 1961, a number of teams organized and that group teamed up with a national program out of Philadelphia, known today as Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. At the first inaugural meeting of the Jersey Shore Pop Warner Football League, Inc., and participating in its inaugural season were the Asbury Park Bishops, Brick Dragons, Fair Haven Tigers, Rumson Bulldogs (Rumson and Fair Haven having merged are known today as the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs) Neptune Fliers, New Shrewsbury (formerly the Tinton Falls Falcons, known today as the Monmouth Falcons). A gentleman by the name of Jerald Jeraloman, who was founder, and President of the then Fair Haven Tigers was elected, and served as the new Conference's first President. Other officers, mostly from Fair Haven were Crawford Venn, Secretary, Dick Pettigrew, Vice-President and Bob Howat, Treasurer. From that original 6 member Franchises, and approximately 200 children, this Conference has grown to become one of the largest Pop Warner Conferences in the United States today. As of 1998, we can proudly boast of 36 member Franchises, servicing over 42 high school districts. In addition, we serve approximately 88 municipalities in four counties (Ocean, Monmouth, and portions of Middlesex, and Burlington) At last count; we had almost 15,000 participants, ages 7 through 14, and still counting! We offer a phenomenal football, and spirit squad program, as well as flag football and cheer competitions. Besides teaching our children the sports of Football and Cheering, the main emphasis of this Conference is on Scholastic Programming. In keeping with this, the Conference offers an excellent scholastic awards program wherein, proof of satisfactory academic progress in school is mandatory for all of its participants. We also award the William R. Eastmond Scholarship Memorial Grant to alumni of JSPWFL programs who meet the requirements of same. Applications for the Eastmond Scholarship are available through your High School Guidance Office, or local Pop Warner Franchise. However, if you can’t locate an application, we will be more than happy to make sure that you receive one. The deadline for submission of this form is April 30 annually. In the history of our Conference many volunteers have played a grand part in our evolution from our beginning to today. Many of our awards, projects and activities are a direct testimonial to their involvement and therefore we mention some of their names and contributions on this site, in their honor, and as a testimonial to them. |
